Donald Dean "Chuck" Scroggs

Donald Dean "Chuck" Scroggs, 82, of Monticello, passed away at 11:45 pm, Thursday, September 15, 2022 at White Oak Health Campus.


He was born on December 19, 1939 in Idaville in the family home to the late James David and Viola Mae (Shafer) Scroggs.


Don was a 1957 graduate of Idaville School. He was a member of the Idaville First Church of God. He served as a Cub Scout leader in Idaville for two years. Don worked for NIPSCO starting as a heavy equipment operator and later became a welder before retiring from the Underground Natural Gas Storage in Royal Center. Don served as Past Master at Burnettsville Lodge #663 F&AM which later consolidated with Royal Center Lodge #585 F&AM. He enjoyed fishing, lapidary (jewelry making) and collecting rocks. He loved working with his hands and was skilled in plumbing, carpentry and remodeling his home and garage. He also enjoyed cutting down trees, splitting wood, and traveling in his R.V.


He is survived by his children, Patrick (Nancy) Scroggs of Monroe, NC and Sherry (Greg) Evans of Monticello; sister, Marjean (Jim) Marvin of Idaville; three grandchildren, Lyndsi (Jared) Dreckman, Ryan Scroggs and Samantha Evans; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Adilyn and Jace; and bonus children, Melonie (Jeff) Payne of Florida, Stephanie (Tim) Snoeburger of Lafayette, and Brad Murray of Lafayette.


Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Masonic services will be at 4 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.


Funeral services celebrating Chuck's life will be at 10:30 am Friday, September 23, 2022 at the funeral home with Rev. Keith Raderstorf of the Idaville First Church of God officiating.


Burial will follow in Idaville Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be given to the Idaville First Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
