David Lee Johns, Sr.

David Lee Johns, Sr., 78, of Reynolds, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at I U Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born on October 18, 1944 in Monon to the late Harry, Sr. and Valeria (Bulington) Johns. On October 3, 1967 he married Sandy Hardesty at Guernsey Church of the Brethren. She survives.

David was the owner and operator of Johns Bakery for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed operating the bakery and eating the sweets he created. He had served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was an incredible craftsman that could build or create anything to perfection. He was a member of Guernsey Church of the Brethren and former member of the Moose. David liked to go to the casino. He enjoyed his family, some when they came and some when they went.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Reynolds; children, John (Christine) Johns of Liberty, TX, Herk Johns of Reynolds, Christine Dickson of Indianapolis, Toni (David) Jordan of Avon; sister, Alma Redmon of Reynolds; grandchildren, Jessica, Courtney, Neketa, Brandon, Dyllan, Harry, Aimee, Morgan, Cheyenne, Jordyn, Dakota, Nick; great grandchildren, Jozlyn, Michael, Jaylee, Mason, Deven, Britney, Braden, Alexis, Daniel, Raelynn, Leo, Everlynn, Antonio, and Wesley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harry, Jr., Merle, Paul, Jerry, and Sam Johns; son-in-law and best friend, Dennis Dickson.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services celebrating Dave's life at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 2, 2022 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Pastor Jeff Scheffee will officiate services.

Burial will follow in Bedford Cemetery with military rites.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital or The Rotary Foundation for Polio Eradication. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
