Charles E. 'Pee Wee' Harris

Charles E. "Pee Wee" Harris, 78, of Monticello passed away at 3:46 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Whispering Pines Rehabilitation Center in Monticello. He was born June 19, 1935, the son of the late Cedric and Lela Daisy (Martin) Harris. On August 16, 1954, in Monticello he married Shirley Stearns, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2009. Charlie worked his first job at the age of ten setting pins at the local bowling alley from which, along with many other lessons, he gained his strong work ethic. He was a retired cabinet maker for RCA. He later worked at Schultz's Family Store and cleaned at Anglers. He enjoyed fishing, euchre, horse shoes, and was a loyal patron of Kinsers Bakery. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially the babies. He is survived by his son, Michael D. (Carole) Harris of Lafayette; daughters, Fay M. (Gary) Quade of Brookston, Trina J. (Steve) Clerget of Monticello; grandsons, Riley (Kylie) Clerget, Alex (Ashley) Clerget; granddaughters, Amy Clerget, Sheila (Laurent) Ahiablame, Holly Harris, Amberlie (Brian) O'Toole, Libby (O.J.) Gilbert, Brittany (Jeremy) Duncan, and Haley Quade; and eleven great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert Turner, Max Harris (MIA), and Raymond Harris; sister, Maxine Aubrey; and a granddaughter, Kendall Quade. Visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of services at 3 pm, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Pastor Nick Lees of Faith Church in Lafayette officiating. "Pee Wee" will be laid to rest beside his beloved, Shirley in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry or to Riley Childrens Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
