Catherine Mae Johns

Catherine Mae Johns, 86, of West Lafayette formerly of Monon and Monticello, passed away at 7:10 am, on Monday, March 8, 2021 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born on February 16, 1935 in Monon to the late Robert and Geraldine (Wentz) Allen. On June 2, 1951 in Jeffersonville, IN she married Merle Keith Johns and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2008.
Catherine attended Monon School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the White County Homemaker's Extension Association. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Monon where she was also involved with the Ann Sceany Missionary Circle. She hosted the Neighborhood Ladies Bible Study Group every week in her home.
She was an extremely creative person known for her handcrafted ornate and very detailed sugar Easter eggs for which people traveled for miles to purchase. She excelled at baking and was a known cake decorator. Her daughter and grandsons loved her cowboy cookies. She also enjoyed and was skilled at watercolor painting. And, we cant forget her love of word search books. Above all else, she cherished time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, great-great grandson, fur babies, and grand fur babies, especially during family Christmas Eve gatherings. No animal left her yard unfed.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Johns (Teresa Duncan) of West Lafayette; grandsons, Shawn (Rebecca) Johns of Kinston, NC, and Dustin (Barbara) Johns of Portage; grandchildren, Alexis (Austin) West of Iowa, and Andrew Johns of Buelaville, NC; great-great grandson Ledger West; siblings, Barbara (Fred) Eisert of West Lafayette, Bob (Arnetta) Allen of Monon, Gerry (Penny) Allen of Monon, Francis (Karen) Allen of Burnettsville, and Violet (Don) Hughes of Idaville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; daughter, Linda Johns; son Merle Johns, Jr.; brothers, Russell, Harley, Mark, Danny, and Monty "Sonny" Allen; and sister, Virginia "Ginny" Call.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Anna and Kate, Crystal and Alayne, and Aunt Penny and Uncle Butch for their selfless loving care.
