Cary Dee Ashton

Cary D. Ashton, 58, of Delphi, passed away on April 10, 2014 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on August 14, 1955 in Lafayette to the late Thomas "Durke" and Sarah "Sally" (Cripe) Ashton. He was a 1974 graduate of Twin Lakes High School and attended Indiana University, Bloomington. During his childhood and youth, he was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. He worked as a master wood worker constructing cabinets and furniture. He worked at RCA in Monticello until it closed and then went to work at Peters Revington in Delphi for 25 years. He was currently working at Hiram Furniture in Logansport. He had been a Boy Scout and was a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow. Cary was a member Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Alpha Psi Chapter. He was an enthusiastic fan of I.U. sports, but most especially, of I.U. football. He enjoyed wood working, playing guitar,cooking, and was an avid bicyclist. Upon his death, it was Cary's wish to be an organ and tissue donor thereby paying forward the most precious gift of life. This gracious donation was responsible for saving or extending the lives of at least four people. Surviving are his brothers, Tom (Rowena) Ashton of Monticello, Mike (Pam) Ashton of Monticello, twin brother, Gary L. Ashton of Delphi, and Terry (Shirley) Ashton of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death was a niece, Leslie Ashton. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home with Rev. Greg Nydegger officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in rural Monticello. Memorials contributions are encouraged to be given to a food pantry of the donors choice or to the Boy Scouts of America Sagamore Council. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
