Carolyn Sue Oliver

Carolyn S. Oliver, 81, of Idaville, went to be her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 6, 2025 at I U Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born on February 13, 1943 in Lafayette to the late Ralph Saubert and Mary Jane (Wilson). On September 10, 1960 she married Robert Oliver in Lafayette. He survives. They have lived the last 50 years in Adams Township, Carroll County Indiana. 

Living in Colburn, she attended East Tipp High School in Buck Creek. Carolyn was a homemaker but also worked as a cook. Carolyn always worked in the food service business first as a server and then as head cook. She enjoyed cooking for different groups. She cooked at Purdue University, Camp Buffalo, Camp Tecumseh and many summer camps and retreats for the Wesleyan Church. She was involved with the church and doing the Lord’s work. She attended both the Oakland Hill and Delphi Wesleyan churches among others. She was an accomplished baker, seamstress and craft maker. She also performed as a clown; anything to brighten the life of another. She was very involved with the gathering of food and clothing for impoverished countries, always wanting to more for others that had less than her. She took her biggest enjoyment from Chrysalis Ministries, a Bible Study and prison ministry she created for corresponding with inmates sharing God’s word and providing bibles and other written information. Carolyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading, flower gardening, square dancing and Christmas. She especially cherished time with her family.

She is survived by six children, John (Mary) Oliver of Monticello, Bob (Peg) Oliver of Burnettsville, Cathy Oliver (companion Sue Hanaway) of Idaville, Connie (Bill) Foutch of Monticello, David (Denise) Oliver of Battle Ground, Craig (Christen) Oliver of Monticello; five siblings, Edward (Faye) Saubert of Buffalo, William (Janet) Saubert of Lafayette, Alberta Dawson of Lafayette, Lana (Keith) Martin of Rossville, Martha Jane Harbolt of Colburn; step siblings, Cassie Schley, Gary Pattengale and John Pattengale; 19 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Harbolt, Patty Wortman, Ralph Saubert, Karen Pattengale, Mike Pattengale and Mike Carter; granddaughter, Jessica Oliver.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home with Pastors Samuel Bowers and Joe Hooten officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cedarville/Seceder Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Idaville Vounteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
