Betty L. Criswell

Betty L Criswell, 87, of Monon, formally of Reynolds, passed away at 11:48 am, Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Monticello Healthcare. She was born on March 23, 1927 in Reynolds, on the family farm, to the late Rufus and Oacle (Burris) James. On January 6, 1947 she married Donald A. Criswell and he preceded her in death. She graduated from Reynolds High School and worked at Solly's restaurant from which she retired after 32 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds. Betty enjoyed reading and read a book everyday. She liked watching birds, watching ice skating, Dancing with the Stars, but most especially enjoyed eating out at the USA in Reynolds. She is survived by her children, Rufus Criswell of Mitchell, Rose M. Wiley of Monon, and Donna (Ron) Kyburz of Monon; two sisters, Charlotte Swartz of Indianapolis, and Marilyn Montgomery of Speedway; sister-in-law, Dona Sue James of Battleground; five grandchildren, Monica Anderson, Dan (Jaime) Kyburz, Brian (Melanie) Kyburz, Brad (Tanna) Kyburz, Heather (Steve) Rater; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Anderson, Kaylia Wiley, Haley Rater, Chelsea Rater, Dillinger Kyburz, Braya Kyburz, and James Kyburz. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Willie James, Harold James, Frank James, and John James; sisters, Evelyn James, Effie Wiese, Mary Ruemler, Dortha Zarse, Annabelle Clark, and Rosa Mae Young. Funeral rites are private. Private burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Reynolds. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
