Bernard A. Butt

Bernard A. Butt, 84, of Monticello, passed away at 7:44 pm, Sunday, October 22, 2017 at IU Health Lafayette, Indiana.He was born on October 24, 1932 in Peru, IN to the late John and Letitia Butt. He is survived by his wife Rosemary Stookey Butt and three daughters, Paris (Dan) Pepoon of Northbrook, IL, Apryl Plageman of Lafayette, IN, Autumn (Mark) McGregor of Pine Village, IN; nine grandchildren, Laney, Brian, and Natalie Pepoon, Zachary Ireland, Alex, Hayley, and Julian Plageman, Ian & Erin McGregor and one brother Gary (Mary) Butt.Bernard played in the U.S. Army Band during the Korean War. He attended North Manchester College until drafted. He received his bachelor degree and masters from Ball State University. Bernard was the Muncie Salvation Army band director. Bernard was a choir director at Valparaiso High School until 1989, from which he retired. Bernard also taught at Pennville, Bluffton and Columbia City all in Indiana. Bernard enjoyed golf and finally got a hole in one at the Kokomo American Legion in, IN. He especially enjoyed playing bridge. Bernard was a CUBS fan and went to his first game at Wrigley Field last year just before they won the World Series. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Butt; sister, Patricia Chalkley and grandson, Eli Plageman.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Tippecanoe Arts Federation ARTreach Instrument Lending Program.
