Beecher 'Pap' Owens

Beecher "Pap" Owens, 88, of Monticello died at 3:35 pm, Sunday, January 6, 2013 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital. He was born November 10, 1924 in Magoffin, Kentucky to the late Alfred Ida Mae (Flint) Owens. His marriage was to the former Bertie Davis on August 14, 1947, in Winamac. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Knox. He worked as a machinist for more than 30 years at Owens Welding and Machine Shop. He enjoyed his time at the machine shop and working on lawn mowers in his spear time. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Most of all he loved and cherished time spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Surviving are three sons, Rudy (Linda) Owens of Monticello, Larry "Skin" (Nancy) Owens of Monticello, Lester (Companion, Tira) Owens of Windsor, Kentucky; three daughters, Margie (Danny) Fletcher of Salyersville, Kentucky, Glenda Sue (Dan) Spencer of Monticello, Ellie (Keith) Robertson of Monticello; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Don Owens; a sister, Edna Barnes; and a granddaughter. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of services at 1 pm, Wednesday, January 9 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Pastor Ross Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites rendered. Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
