Beatrice 'Bette' Ziehl

Formerly of Brookfield, Wisconsin and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Beatrice "Bette" A. Ziehl, 93, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello with her family by her side.

Bette was born on January 3, 1924 in West Allis, Wisconsin to the late Oscar and Agnes (Olson) Melius. On November 9, 1946 she married Frank Ziehl in Milwaukee. They had been married 68 years when he preceded her in death on November 23, 2014.

As a student, Bette excelled in public speaking and was at the top of her class at Random Lake High School. She moved her senior year and graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Wisconsin. After high school, she worked at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee until she got married and then became a homemaker. Bette and her husband, Frank, volunteered in philanthropic capacities raising funds for the Elmbrook Hospital in Brookfield, Wisconsin and various other organizations. Bette loved to volunteer, travel, and was a competitive golf and tennis player. Through her 68 years of marriage, Bette had traveled to many countries and around the world. She also enjoyed hosting a variety of people in her own home from abroad.

Bette attended Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello, IN, through their White Oak ministry.

She is survived by six children, Sue (Daryl) Munson of Poulsbo, WA, Pam (John) Schaal of Muskego, WI, Larry (Gay Fliegler) Ziehl of Denver, CO, Mike Ziehl of Fairport, NY, Mary (Lee) Hargitt of Monticello, IN, and Therese (Jeff) Forbes of Berwyn Heights, MD; sister-in-law, Lenore Melius of Plymouth, WI; brother-in-law, Joe Ziehl of Naples, FL; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bette was also preceded in death by a sister, Valerie Kunz, January 16, 2015, and brother, Philip Melius, August 30, 2015, and her nephew Matthew Melius.

Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am at St. Dominic Church
