Barry L. Alpha, 75, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Hickory Creek at Winamac.


He was born on December 25, 1947 in Rensselaer to the late Robert A. and Viola Mae (Downs) Alpha. On March 5, 1983 he married Susie Vigus at the Monticello Christian Church. She survives.


Barry graduated from Twin Lakes High School in 1966 and joined the Army National Guard. He worked as an exterminator at Alpha's Dependable Exterminators in Monticello which he established in the early 1980's. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Prairie Timbers Coon Hunters Club, all of Monticello. Barry played in bands and was a "Rock-n-Roll Star". He liked hunting, fishing, bowling, boating, roller skating, water skiing, NASCAR, country music and old westerns. He coached baseball locally. He liked drag racing his Chevelle and went to nationals. He raised Walker Coon Hounds and Beagles and enjoyed his four English Setters. He competed with the coon dogs and won two Grand Nite Championships.


In addition to his wife Susie, he is survived by his children, Amy Lynn (Dave) Hulka of Noblesville, Scott (Angie) Alpha of Logansport; grandchildren, Saige Alpha, Ben Hulka, Grace Alpha, Kira Hulka, Ilene Alpha, Royce Alpha, Henry Alpha, Lydia Alpha; and great grandson, Harlan Alpha.


He was also preceded in death by his siblings,Sandy Foley, Ed and Jack Alpha.


Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services celebrating Barry's life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Dr. James Elliott officiating.


Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites rendered there.


Memorial contributions may be given to Sitka Baptist Church or Monticello Veterans Honor Guard. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
