Listen to Obituary

A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister, Alice “Kay” Fulnecky, 85, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026. She had bravely confronted and fought cancer for the past few years. Kay was born March 25, 1941 in Monticello, Indiana and was the youngest of six children. She graduated from high school having never been absent or tardy for those twelve years. After graduating high school, Kay earned a scholarship to and attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana. While working as a visiting nurse full-time, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University.

Upon completion of her master’s degree, she accepted the position of Director of Medical Nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. After her husband was transferred from Baltimore to Albany, New York, she became the Director of Nursing for Samaritan Hospital, Troy, New York. After another transfer to Washington, D.C., they moved to Arlington, Virginia and she became the Director of Administrative Services, Nursing Department, at Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia. During this tenure, Kay entered Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech) to begin her doctorate degree. This led to the establishment of a physician practice management company where she assisted physicians with their medical practices and business issues which continued for 25 years. Kay also purchased an internal medicine practice in Fairfax, Virginia, employing three physicians and three nurse practitioners. After ten years, she sold this practice to two physicians. Kay then moved with her husband to Springfield, Missouri, fourteen years ago, to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved politics. She was active in the Republican Party, including volunteering on Senator Dole’s national campaign for President.

Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Joseph Jerome Fulnecky, of Frankfort, Indiana, who retired from the Department of Transportation after 40 years with the federal government.

Kay is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Eric and Kristi Fulnecky of Nixa, Missouri; her grandchildren, Veronica, Samantha, Abby, Lyle, Sabrina, and Gabby Fulnecky of Nixa; her great-grandson, Ezariah Fulnecky; her brother, Grant Chrisop; nephews and nieces, Jed and Carol Shropshire, Pam and Gary Smedlie, and Alan and Robin Shropshire, and their families. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John Chrisop and Ed Chrisop; her sisters, Kathleen Caldwell and Marjorie Chrisop; her parents, Lyle and Ruth Chrisop.

A public visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Greenlawn East, 3540 Seminole Street, Springfield, Missouri 65809.

A private burial will be held in Monticello, Indiana, where she will be buried next to her late husband. We will miss you, Grandma
