Virginia M. Gatewood Hanna, 90, of Monticello, died at 2:38pm, Monday, February 27, 2012 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. She was born January 6, 1922 in Lebanon to the late Thomas and Hazel (Gullion) Bowman. Her first marriage was to W. "Woody" Gatewood on August 12, 1947 in Lebanon. He preceded her in death February 8, 1968. Her second marriage was to Gene C. Hanna on July 13, 1970 in Monticello. He preceded her in death December 12, 1989. She was a member of the Monticello First Presbyterian church. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. Mrs. Hanna was a waitress in the early 1950's at Anglers restaurant. She also worked at Jim Mann Insurance Company, which later merged with Heiny Insurance in claims from which she retired after several years of employment. She was member of Lebanon Chapter #23 OES, Women of the Moose of Monticello, American Legion Womens Auxiliary Post 81 and VFW Womens Auxiliary Post 2231 both of Monticello. She enjoyed cats, dining out when she could, and watching MASH episodes. Mrs. Hanna also enjoyed living on the lake and pontoon rides with her grandchildren when they were small. She also enjoyed taking and archiving pictures. She loved to make noodles and never forgot a birthday. She is survived by a son, Wm. Stan Gatewood of Monticello; step son, Gary (Terry) Hanna of Monticello; stepdaughter, Carol Brown of McKinney, TX; stepdaughter, Cheryl Statzer of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Billie Alpha of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death is a son, John Gatewood; and a daughter, Anna Lee Gatewood. Presbyterian Deacons Prayer circle will be at 4pm on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 4:15 pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11am, Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Albaum from the Monticello First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monticello First Presbyterian church or to the White County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
