Virginia J. Harner, 97, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born on May 16, 1921 in Delphi to the late John C. and Mary (McCain) Redding. On November 23, 1939 she married Frank E. Harner in Tippecanoe County. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1993.
Virginia was a graduate of Klondike High School. She lived in White County since 1948, coming from Tippecanoe County. Virginia had lived on a farm for several years before moving to Monticello in 1977.
She was a manager at the White County License Branch from 1969-1981. Virginia was also a White County Republican Chairman. She had been a member of the Eastern Star in Otterbein and Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Brookston.
She liked reading mystery novels, sewing, flowers, gardening and was a chocolate lover.
She is survived by three children, Richard (Linda) Harner of Monticello, John (Lois) Harner of Bloomington and Sue Peters of Lafayette; sister, Shirley Henderson of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Deb Harner, Patty (Stan) Schneider, Cathy (Jay) Luebbert, Penny (Randy) White, Ed (Bellamy) Harner, Amy Harner, Bryan Peters and Jill Peters; and nine great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Harner; sister, Maxine Basenfelder; brothers, Richard and Willard Redding; son in law, Jack Peters; daughter in law, Jeannie Harner; two grandchildren, Tom Harner and Kirk Harner.
Visitation will be from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello, with Pastor Brian Beeks officiating.
Burial will follow at the Brookston I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
