Stanley Gainer

Ewing Stanley "Stan" Gainer, 83, of Monticello, passed away at 2:34 am, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 25, 1935 in Livingston County, Kentucky to the late Willard Rudy and Mary Edith (Smith) Gainer. On July 11, 1992 he married the former Mary Gordon in Elwood and she survives.
Stan attended Grace Community Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Metea High School near Logansport and served eight years in the Army National Guard.
He worked most of his career as an owner operator semi driver from which he retired. He had also worked a stint as a barber. He was proud of the many safe driving awards he received over the years from Central Transport.
He was once a very avid bowler. He held several perfect game records in Logansport bowling allies and went to nationals in Ohio. He treasured the many bowling trophies over the years representing his accomplishments. In addition, he was a passionate golfer, loved playing the guitar and started a gospel jam at Leisure World Park in Weslaco, Texas.
Surviving are his wife, Mary of Monticello; his children, Janet (Mike) Stratton of Logansport, Karen (Mike) Angle of Logansport, Donald (Carol) Ritter of Anderson, Barry (Melissa) Ritter of Hagerstown; son-in-law, Duane Jones of Elwood; sister, Willa (Jerry) Smith of Logansport; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Jones; sisters, Helen Forker and Judy Clark; and brothers, Rudy and David Gainer.
Visitation will be from 10 am until noon, on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Grace Community Baptist Church located at 301 S. Beach Drive, Monticello, IN. Funeral services celebrating Stan's life will follow at noon at the church with Pastor Gary Roberts officiating.
Burial will be at 4 pm in Forestville Cemetery near Summittville, IN.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to Grace Community Baptist Church with envelopes available at the church.
Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello is entrusted with care.
