Ruth Erwin

Ruth Erwin, 96, of Monticello, passed away at 10:15 am, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born on December 27, 1919 in Monon to the late Charles C. and Hazel D. (Pogue) Hughes. She was a 1938 graduate of Monon High School. On April 11, 1942 she married Oliver C. "Shorty" Erwin. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1989.
She was a homemaker and worked as a Secretary for Twin Lakes School Corporation for 19 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Church Quilters and Church Study Group. She was a Charter Member of Monticello Health Care Auxiliary. Ruth was also a member of the Holiday Home Extension Club and Tri-Kappa. Ruth enjoyed quilting, cross stitch, crocheting, sewing, and other hand work. Her sewing skills enabled her to make many clothes.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlene E. (Ed) Lucas of Monticello, Jane (Rob) Hood of Reynolds; 5 grandchildren, Keith (companion: Katie Jordan) Hood, Scott (Denise) Hood, Jennifer (Fred) Walters, Matt (Rachel) Lucas, Mandy (John) Cheeseman; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by 4 brothers.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at noon, Monday, April 25, 2016 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rev. Glenn Knepp will officiate.
Burial will be private at Monon Chapel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given in Ruth's name to Reynolds United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
