Patrick E. Whitaker, 68, of Monticello, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 29th at his home. He was born in Prestonsburg, KY on May 20, 1949 to the late Dorothy June Carver and Estill "Tony" Whitaker. Pat was a graduate of Twin Lakes, class of 1968. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1972 as a communications locator/interceptor while stationed in Japan.After returning home, he joined the Rensselaer police department while also serving as the Remington Town Marshall. At 27, he was hired on as a patrolman for the Monticello police department. During that time, he served as chief of police for 8 years and finally retired in 1998. After retirement, he worked as a carpenter up until his death. Throughout his life, Pat had a passion for fishing in and out of the country, mushroom hunting, woodworking and passing on his knowledge of firearms. The love he had for his family was evident and endless. He is survived by his longtime companion, Jennie Mcfadden; three children, Amy (Jeff) Van Weelden, Matthew Whitaker and Abby (Joel) Balser; grandchildren, Dakota, Cheyenne, Scout and Willow. He will be greatly missed by his brother, Warren Whitaker and sisters Teresa Hazelbaker, Linda Whitaker, Dotty Penna, Barbara Haskins and Terri Fredericks, brothers-in laws and neices and nephews. Come share your memories of Pat at The Tippecanoe Country Club, 3267 North West Shafer Drive, Monticello on May 4th from 4-8pm.In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the Otis Bowen Veterans House at P.O. Box 1962, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
