Melitta M. 'Millie' Cook

Melitta M. "Millie" Cook, 79, of Monticello died at 8:40 am, Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her children. She was born November 3, 1931 in Berlin, Germany to the late Georg and Hedwig (Pietsch) Folkers. Her marriage was to Erwin B. Bernie Cook on July 2, 1955 in Lenggries, Germany. He preceded her in death February 10, 2009. Millie moved to the United States in 1957 from Germany after Bernie was discharged from the Army. She and Bernie lived in Gary for many years before moving to Monticello in 1979. She was a homemaker. Besides being a mother, raising her children, being known as a great babysitter, and an awesome grandmother, her greatest accomplishment, and something she was most proud of, was when she became a U.S. citizen in 1982. Millie had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party. Her youngest grandson, Joshua age 9, was her pride and joy. She had hoped to live to see him graduate. She is survived by 3 sons, Ronald Cook of Scottsdale, Arizona, Robert J. (Tammy) Cook of Lockport, Indiana, Erwin B. Cook III of Sacramento, California; daughter, Connie J. (David) Beller of Crown Point; sister, Anneliese (Nick) Gillis of Valparaiso; 4 grandsons, Davey, Brandon (Carmen), Joshua, Peter; granddaughter, Cara; and step great-granddaughter, Alana. She was also preceded in death by a brother Gunther Folkers. Visitation will be from 3 pm until 9 pm (EDT) Friday, October 21 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 pm (EDT), Saturday, at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Dodson of the Monticello Christian Church officiating. Burial will be beside her beloved Bernie in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery. You may sign the online guestbook at www.springerfuneralhome.com
