Mary R. Cannon

Mary R. Cannon, 97, of Lafayette , formerly of Monticello died at 12:29 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Rosewalk Commons in Lafayette. She was born July 24, 1914 in Chicago to the late John C. and Anna (Klauk) Reckert. Her marriage to John J. Cannon was on October 19, 1946 in Chicago . He preceded her in death February 24, 2000. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and attended Catholic services at Rosewalk Commons. She graduated high school and also attended Business College in Chicago . She had worked for Phoenix Trimming as a bookkeeper but took a sabbatical while she was raising her children. She went back to her former bookkeeping position and retired from Phoenix Trimming. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and was an excellent seamstress, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her precious great-granddaughter. She is survived by two daughters, Judy C. (Mike) Ford of Lafayette, Maureen C. (Phillip) Armato of Evanston, Illinois; son, John T. (Linda) Cannon of San Diego, California; two Brothers, John (Gloria) Reckert of Schaumburg, Illinois, Richard Reckert of Arlington Heights , Illinois ; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Adeline Reckert, Agnes Fischer; and brothers, Bernard and Frank Reckert. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm (EST), Wednesday, November 16 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery , rural Monticello Memorial contributions may be given to Boys Town or to a charity of the donor's wishes. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
