Mary E. Flaherty

Mary E. Flaherty, 91 of Monticello died at 10:57 am, Friday, February 22, 2013 at I.U. Health WhiteMemorial. She was born on July 5, 1921 in Monticello to the late Orson and Olive (Thompson) Cope. Her marriage was to Everett C. Flaherty on July 5, 1948 in Fowler. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2004. She is a graduate of Gilboa High School, which was near Remington and was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed birds. Most of all she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by 2 daughters, Anita Broyles of IL, Linda A. Flaherty of Monticello; 7 grandchildren, Kelly (Bill) Knopf, Lori (Jeremy) Mitchell, Erin (Mark) Hemmerling, Leslie (Brian) Townsend, Kevin (Pam) Flaherty, Derek (Kathleen) Flaherty, Daniel (Sheana) Flaherty; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Flaherty; 2 brothers; Douglas Cope and Donald Williams; a sister, Ruby Marcus; and a grandson, Charles "Chuckie" Ward. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm (EDT), Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am (EDT), Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
