Joseph W. Dold Jr.,78, of Monticello, Indiana passed away at 4:25 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2023 at White Oak Health Campus with many of his family and his beloved dog, Chunky, at his side. For the past several years, Joe suffered from Lewy Body dementia and complications of this devastating disease ended his life.
Born August 24, 1944, in Chicago Heights, IL, Joe was the son of Joseph W. Dold Sr. and Mary (LoBue) Dold. Joe married his high school sweetheart, Janet (Ollman), and together they raised six children.
A 1962 graduate of Genoa Kingston High School, Joe was honored to attend and graduate from the University of Notre Dame in 1966 where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Following his college graduation, Joe began a successful professional career in manufacturing at Anaconda Wire and Cable Company. He was a plant manager in three different states and went on to be the plant manager for two additional companies.
He passionately enjoyed family and family history, cooking for family gatherings, Notre Dame football, dancing, music – especially his favorite James Taylor, boating, carpentry and home renovations, classic movies, and spending time with his many beloved dogs. Joe volunteered as the sound technician at New Hope Lutheran Church (Apostle). In all he did, Joe valued experiences with others over any material possessions. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, Monticello and also attended services at Our Lady of the Lakes Church.
Joe is survived by his wife Janet (Ollman) Dold; his children Christopher (Kelly) Dold, Joseph (Sandy) Dold, Rebecca (Jeff) Milligan, Stephen (Angela) Dold, Sarah (Morgan Anderson) Dold, and Zach (Lucy) Dold; his grandchildren Joshua Dold, Cameron Bennington, Mark Dold, Bryce Bennington, Blake (Taylor) Bennington, Grace Milligan, Hannah Dold, Tanner Dold, Margaret Milligan, Kayla Bennington, Abigail Milligan, Emma Dold, Arianna Dold, Aidan Dold, Cooper Dold, Jace Anderson, and Liam Anderson; his soon to arrive great-granddaughter Taya Bennington; his brother Doug (Doris) Dold and his sister Ethel (Ted) Devine and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; grandson Lucas Edward Alan Welsh; and granddaughter Faith Elise Dold.
The family extends a special note of appreciation to his caretakers at White Oak Health Campus for their devotion to Joe’s well-being and their warm kindness to his family.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 15 from 4:00 until 5:30 pm at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello, Indiana. A private service will follow.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that memorials be given to the Joe and Chunky Dold Dogs for Life fund at the Community Foundation of White County. This fund was established by his family to support therapy/service dog visits at medical facilities in White County. With heartfelt gratitude, Joe’s family.
