John D. Haughawout, 68 of Monticello, Indiana died at 5:11 pm, Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at St Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette. He was born February 20, 1943 in Downers Grove, Illinois to the late Merle and Mary (Montignoli) Haughawout. He married the former Sheila Fitz on October 18, 1988 at the Tippecanoe Country Club and she survives. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Illinois and received his Bachelor's in business from Parsons College in Iowa. He served in the National Guard. He owned and operated Sign Magic for 23 years. He was very involved in the Monticello community from which he received much special recognition. He served as chairman of the Shore Front Committee with the SFLECC. He was a member of the Tippecanoe Country Club and was involved with the club bridge group. He enjoyed golf, football, and dancing. He was a story teller. Above all, he cherished his family and loved spending time with them. In addition to his wife, Sheila, he is survived by his children Jill Haughawout, Grant (Erin) Haughawout both of Indianapolis, Michael (Tracy) Fitz of Carmel, Andrea Parrish of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan Parrish, Blake and Carli Fitz, Cooper and Cameron Haughawout; and one great-granddaughter, Marissa Parrish. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Parrish. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm (EST), Monday, January 9, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am (EST), Tuesday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Gerald Borawski officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery, rural Monticello. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
