John A. Arnott

Jon Arnott was born on August 10, 1943 in Defiance, Ohio to the late Larry and Loretta (Walpole) Arnott. He moved to Monticello in 1946 where he completed grade school and high school.After graduation in 1961, he entered Purdue in the School of Animal Science Pre Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from Purdue with a double major in Animal Science and Agronomy. He then started his master degree in 1966, also at Purdue.Jon went to work for Eli Lilly (Elanco) in October of 1966 in their Animal Science Veterinary Division and was promoted into the Eli Lilly home office in 1972 as National Accounts Manager where he worked with the home offices of Cargill and Supersweet Feed companies.In 1974 he was promoted into marketing where he was responsible for all veterinary products. He traveled extensively throughout the US while in this position. On May 18th 1968, he married Jan L. Howkinson at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Jan was the love of his life and he spent many happy years together with Jan. As Jon always said, she was his motivation and heartbeat.In 1978 he was transferred to the Ag Chem Division of Eli Lilly. He and Jan relocated from Carmel back to Monticello. After moving several times, it was a dream come true to move back home and develop some roots. Jon finished his career of 41 years with Eli Lilly (Elanco) in the Ag Chem Division in 2007.Jon and Jan have two sons, Jeff L. Arnott and J.R. Arnott. They are both 4th generation Purdue graduates. Jeff is employed by Bayer Pharm in their Ag Chem Division and lives in Mt. Carmel, IL. J.R. works for Medtronic in the medical implant field and lives in Peoria, IL.Jon and Jan have four grandchildren, Lane and Drew Arnott, children of Jeff and Page Arnott and Tess and Luke Arnott, children of J.R. and Michelle Arnott.Jon was very much an outdoors person and shot extensively in the trap and skeet sports. He loved to hunt and fish and did so frequently as a young person. Jon belonged to ducks Unlimited, SAFE, Pheasants Forever, Turkey Federation, Quails Unlimited and NRA. He was an eight year member of the Twin Lakes School Board, Kiwanis and Purdue Alumni Association. Jon also enjoyed playing golf and spent many years trying to become a good player, but finally settled for just having fun. He and Jan played best ball with other couples which made the game a lot easier, and more fun.Jon loved his wife of fifty years, his children and clearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up.Jon raised three labs, Decoy, Boomer and Winchester and had endless hours of fun hunting with them. He always said I hope to be with them again someday.He said he was lucky enough to have the best wife a man could ask for and he could leave this life knowing she is the heartbeat of the family and everything will be ok."God bless my family and all the wonderful people who brought pleasure into my life. Friends may call one hour prior to mass. Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F.
