James J. "Jim" Jensen, 84, of Monticello died at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at I U Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. He was born on April 18, 1927, in Chicago to the late Walter and Loretta (McGrath) Jensen. His marriage was to Barbara Boyd on May 13, 1950 in Chicago, and she survives. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WW II. Jim had many different talents when it came to work. He worked as a tuck pointer, licensed tanker man, warehouse foremen, and a maintenance supervisor. He retired in June of 1988 and relocated from Lansing, Illinois to the lake house in Monticello. He was an active member of VFW Post 2231 and American Legion Post 81 both of Monticello. In addition to his wife Barbara, of 61 years, he is survived a son, Tom (Teresa) Jensen of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Peggy Howarth of Highland, Indiana; grandchildren Joe and Katie Howarth and Hailey and Sophie Jensen. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margret, Loretta, and Marion; and brothers Walter and Ken. Visitation will be from 10 am until 11:30 am, Friday, April 29, 2011 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church Officiating. Full Military will follow outside the funeral home following the funeral service. Private family burial will be in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville. Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Food Pantry P.O. Box 323, Monticello, IN 47960.
