George A. Cleefman, Sr.

George A. Cleefman Sr., 87, of Monticello, formerly of Reynolds died at 11:15 pm, February 26, 2012 at I.U. Health White Memorial Hospital of Monticello. He was born March 1, 1924 in the family farm home located in rural Monticello to the late William and Nellie (Knoll) Cleefman. His marriage was to Elizabeth "Betty" Akers on August 22, 1949 in Reynolds. She preceded him in death October 15, 2007. He was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds. He was a member of the first graduating class of Roosevelt High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a life long farmer in White County retiring in 2004. He was a child of the depression and understood hard times. He worked various laborious jobs no matter how difficult to provide for his family. He gave generously of himself to friends and family expecting nothing in return. He was a life member of the American Legion of Wolcott and the VFW of Reynolds. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom, and arrowhead hunting. Surviving are a son, George (Renee) Cleefman Jr. of Reynolds; two daughters, Jane (Dean) DeVoe of Goshen, Virginia (Bert) Peck of Monticello; three grandsons, Chris (Brooke) Cleefman of Rensselaer, Chad (Lisa) Cleefman of Wolcott, Scott (Brandi) DeVoe of Goshen; three granddaughters, Kian Cleefman (husband Francisco Castenada) of Frankfort, Carrie (Adam) Connell of Reynolds, Dena (Matt) Deal of Goshen; twenty-three great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Also preceding him in death are an infant son, Frank Cleefman; sister, Julia Pearl; and brothers, Henry Christian and Raymond William Cleefman. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, March 1, 2011 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Friday at the funeral home with Pastor, Charles Blakey officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds.
