Barbara Jane "B.J." Kirk, 82, of Monticello, died at 7:45am on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center. She was born January 29, 1931 in Vincennes to the late Wilbur and Doris (Clark) Yates. On November 29, 1952 in Vincennes, she married Daniel G. Kirk who survives. Mrs. Kirk was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Lafayette. She was a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School in Vincennes. She received her Liberal Science Degree from Purdue University in 1952. B.J. was primarily a homemaker until the children were grown when she started working for Summit Financial in Lafayette selling long term care insurance. Over the years, she was involved on a community level with the March of Dimes and was also very passionate about the Salvation Army. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi social sorority. She loved riding on her pontoon boat and cherished time spent with her family. She was an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother. She is also survived by two daughters, Kathryn Jane Kirk of St. Peters, MO, Linda Susan (Robby) Brown of Pensacola, FL; a son, Steven Daniel Kirk of Lockport, IL; sister, Patricia (Gerald) Gurin of Ann Arbor, MI; and 5 grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son Jeffrey Clark Kirk who passed away in 1960 at the age of 3. Memorial visitation will be from 11 am until the time of memorial services at 2 pm, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 510 Lindberg Ave., West Lafayette, IN 47906. Rev. Joseph Townsend will officiate services. Memorial contributions may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the donors choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the church.
